Rugby doesn’t have an age limit.
Canterbury is launching a Masters team for the 2027 season — a home for players 35 and over who want back into the game, in a social, inclusive format built around enjoying the sport with old mates and new ones.
Whether you played First Grade in the 1980s or you’re a parent who watched your kids come through Juniors and fancy a run yourself, Masters gives you a way back onto the same paddock the club has run off since 1966.
This is a new team, still being built — the exact format, training nights and season structure are being finalised. Register your interest now and we’ll keep you posted as it comes together.

Part of a wider Sydney scene.
Canterbury won’t be starting from scratch — Masters (also known as Golden Oldies) rugby is an established over-35s scene across Sydney and NSW, played in the spirit of “Fun, Friendship and Fraternity” rather than for points on a ladder. Clubs across the city run their own over-35s sides, from casual weekly touch sessions to a handful of official fixtures a year, usually built around low-contact or modified rules and a strong social side — post-match drinks and a genuine alumni network matter as much as the final score.
Exactly how Canterbury’s own team plugs into that wider scene — a standalone social side, a link-up with the existing NSW Over 35s Golden Oldies and Masters Rugby competition, or something in between — is one of the details still being worked out for 2027. What won’t change: no experience necessary, and it’s about getting back on the field with old mates, not chasing a title.
